Houston West By Northwest
An hour away from the nation's fourth largest city, Houston, Texas, lies a largely untapped resource, Waller Ccounty. Get there by Interstate Highway 10 (half way between Jacksonville, Florida and Los Angeles, California), or State Highway 290 (the road to the capitol of Texas). Highway 6 goes straight to Texas A&M. We're on the windward side of hurricanes, aren't hotter than Houston, and don't flood nearly as much. We're less than an hour drive to a major league baseball, football or basketball game. We're close to the finest concentration of medical resources in the USA. We're in the shadow of World Class Rankings. We're also cheaper and less built up than all the neighbors. We're surrounded by prosperity but almost completely underdeveloped.
Why, you say? In a word, race. The demographic tables say the population is 30% is black, 20% hispanic, 10% "other" and 57% white. It doesn't add up! (for the mathematically challenged, we have over 117%).
Most of the white people are part of the 30% who still support George Bush. There's a large concentration of African Americans at Prairie View A&M University. They don't do much in the community, but inspire fear and loathing because folks think they might all march together and get off the reservation.
None of our elected officials are stars of the future, either regional, statewide or national.
But don't just give us a skip, folks! We've got so much to offer. The place may be rotten to the core, but it's safer than most anywhere else. We don't have gang killings, or refinery explosions.
All we need is some (OK, a lot) of people with ideas, energy and without bigotry. Come on in, we'll show you around.
